Memphis, TN - Police are looking for two men they say are responsible for dousing another man in gasoline and then setting him on fire in a vacant lot.
Police were called two weeks ago after neighbors heard the victim’s screams. Ellis Dewald says he came across the victim in a vacant area behind two homes. He said the man was burned from the waist down.
“I ain’t ever seen nothing like that in my life. I don’t know what made them do something like that,” said Dewald. “That’s torture. I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to die like that.”
Another neighbor said he did not remember the victim’s name, but will never forget the injured man’s screams. ”He was in the weeds. And I just came home from getting groceries. He was over there hollering, his skin peeling off,” said Robert Pearson.
The unidentified man was rushed to the MED in extremely critical condition, suffering burns to 60 percent of his body. He’s still alive, but I’m betting he wishes he wasn’t.
Authorities have now identified two suspects, 26-year-old Robert Glasper and 19-year-old Renard King (pictured). Police have issued arrest warrants for both men and have charged them with criminal attempted first-degree murder.
No word on what pointed police in the direction of King and Glasper, but a quick search on King’s name pulls up multiple mugshots, so it’s not a stretch to assume police were already familiar with the suspects.
