TAMPA, FL – Ruby Brown is facing some serious charges after police the 66-year-old failed to take a young boy in her care to the hospital after another boy had set him on fire.
Someone called Crime Stoppers anonymously to report a 7-year-old boy had been taken to Tampa General Hospital suffering from serious burns to his torso.
An officer went to the hospital to verify the story and learned another child had set the boy on fire five days earlier and Brown, the boy’s caregiver, decided not to seek professional medical attention.
In fact, the boy may have never been treated had it not been for employees at the school where the boy normally attends. They’d stopped by his house to find out why he’d missed so many days and were the ones who took him to the hospital.
Brown was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of child neglect. She was later released on $7,500 bail. The boy remains in the hospital and is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.…
