Brussels, Belgium - Thoiro Mbow has been accused of locking three of her four young children inside a shed, setting it on fire and then calling their father so he could listen to them scream as they burned to death.
Mbow called her live-in partner, Hellmut Ulin, while he was at work twelve miles from their home after receiving a letter from his attorney demanding custody of their children.
She told him, “I will never surrender my children to you,” before informing him that they were locked inside a garden shed she’d set on fire.
“Listen to their screams. I can hear their screams but I will do nothing to save them,” she told him. “You’d better hurry but you will be too late to rescue them. They won’t survive.”
Ulin raced home in his car after calling the fire department. He also called his sister who lives nearby, but it was too late to save his daughters Omy, 2; Abbygail, 4; and Madyson, 6.
When he arrived at the home, the fire department had already extinguished the flames. All Ulin found of his daughters were their charred, lifeless bodies. Mbow was standing nearby calmly smoking where it’s said she told him, “Ten minutes of screaming and then it was all over.”
Recent posts on Mbow’s Facebook shows there were obvious issues between her and her ex. Mbow posted about her feelings towards Ulin claiming he was no better than a dog:
“A being closer to a dog than to a man. He has respect for no one, not even himself. He has so much hatred in him to others that he can not eat or drink there. See people who are happy, feel good about themselves or simply to rest – including his wife – makes him indescribably angry. That his father was an officer in the Waffen-SS, he mentions as an excuse for his behavior. I grew up in a world of violence , he says. But I think it is rather in a world full of hate. You put yourself and the children on their way to a major failure.”
Ulin told authorities he still loved her and did not want her to leave the house; he only wanted her to stop drinking and taking drugs.
He claims the letter of custody was at the suggestion of his lawyer. He had hoped that an official letter would shake her awake and make her change.
The couple’s oldest daughter, 9-year-old Dyarra, survived the attack because she was at school at the time of the incident. Dyarra is Mbow’s daughter from a previous relationship who Ulin adopted as his own. She is currently staying with an aunt.
Mbow has been arrest for the murder of her children and is remaining silent during the investigation.
