LOS ANGELES, CA – Police have charged 51-year-old Clarence Dear with murder after he doused his girlfriend with gasoline Christmas afternoon, then lit her on fire with a cigarette.
According to police, Dear and 41-year-old Dawn Hensley got into an argument on Christmas Day that led to Dear chasing Hensley from their home.
Once outside, Dear doused Hensley with gasoline before using a lit cigarette to set her on fire. Totally engulfed in flames, Hensley continued running until she collapsed in the street.
Neighbors came out to assist Hensley, putting out the fire and staying with her until paramedics arrived. She was rushed to the hospital where she would die from severe burns.
Officers from the Pasadena Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies would locate Dear on Sunday, 30 miles away on a bus in Altadena. He was charged with murder and taken to the Pomona Police Department. His bail was set at $1 million.
Dear isn’t the first man we have reported on who doused their girlfriend with gasoline before setting them on fire with a cigarette. Back in 2009, Kenneth McCurly did the exact same thing to Nicole Partridge.
That poor woman would remain in the hospital for three weeks with burns to 80 percent of her body before she finally died from her injuries. In 2012, McCurly was convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
