Christopher ColumbusHERE, NOWWhether you used the day to gorge on food with loved ones, or mourned the slaughter of Indigenous Peoples at the hands of a madman, Thanksgiving is finally at an end. With that, I present to you five stories featured on Dreamin Demon that involved people cooking something inside a conventional oven that was not a turkey.

Before you go on to read these horrible stories, let me first express my thanks to all of you who continue to visit the site on a daily basis and support us through all of our ups and downs. It’s been an interesting decade, to say the least.

I also want to remind you that we do have a fundraiser going on. I am terrible at promoting it because I have never been very good at asking for help. But if you have a couple bucks to spare and would like to help out our awesome site, please do. If you don’t, no worries – just keep coming back and I’ll keep posting horrible stories.

But enough about that. Let’s get this going with five stories involving conventional ovens. You can click the titles if you want to read the original articles. I have also provided updates when applicable.

Cheyenne Cherry Accused Of Cooking Kitten Alive

Cheyenne CherryNEW YORK, NY —  Back in 2009 we reported on 17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry, a teen who had a mounting juvenile record when she decided to put her former roommate’s kitten inside an oven. With a juvenile accomplice, Cherry broke into the woman’s apartment and trashed it. Before leaving with some of the other woman’s possessions, Cherry put her former roommate’s kitten in the oven and turned it on.

Neighbors called 911 when they saw smoke coming from the apartment and smelled, what they thought, was food cooking. Firefighters would find the roasted remains of the cat inside the oven. When interviewed by police, Cherry said it was just a prank and wasn’t her idea. When they asked her what would posses her to cook a kitten to death, she nonchalantly stated that she “hates cats.”

The kitten killer was arrested in connection with the kitten’s death and charged with arson, burglary, criminal trespass and felony animal cruelty.  She eventually reached a plea deal and was sentenced to two years in jail. One member of a group of animal activists who were in court to watch Cherry be sentenced flipped off Cherry as she walked by. “It’s dead, bitch!” Cherry retorted. She was paroled on 6/7/2011.

Baby Dies After Being Cooked In Oven By Two Unsupervised Toddlers

J'Zyra ThompsonHOUSTON, TX – In one of our more recent oven stories, 19-month-old J’Zyra Thompson died after her mother left her home alone with two 3-year-olds who cooked her to death inside an oven. There was a lot of debate regarding this story, in particular, people who did not believe it had happened the way it was being reported. People could not fathom how two 3-year-olds could get J’Zyra in an oven. New details have since emerged that may shed some light on how it all went down.

Racquel Thompson and her current boyfriend habitually left her four children home alone for various reasons, despite their grandmother living in the same apartment complex. On this particular evening, she and her boyfriend left them home alone to go  grab a pizza. When they returned home two hours later, they found three of the children crying and pointing to the kitchen. When they investigated, they found the oven had toppled over with the door face down on the floor.

Once they uprighted the oven, they found J’Zyra was cooking inside it. Despite Thompson’s efforts to save the little girl, her burn injuries were to severe. The two 3-year-olds later told CPS workers they put their sibling in the oven and turned it on, adding that the baby was kicking the oven door while inside. Thompson and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Cornell Malone, have now been charged with four counts of endangering a child

Kinny Redmon Accused Of Killing Ex-boyfriend’s Puppy By Cooking It In Oven

Kinny RedmonURBANA, IL — Kinny Redmon was accused of putting her ex-boyfriend’s puppy in an oven before turning it on, then called telling the man to “go get yo’ puppy out the oven, bitch.” After the man rushed home, he found his oven set at 300 degrees with a chair pushed up against the door. Inside the oven the man found that his 3-month-old pit bull had been cooked to death.

Redmon was arrested and charged with two felonies; animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals. Her bond was set at $250,000. While in jail, Redmon called her best friend she stated: “I put the dog in the oven and baked it.” When her friend reminds her that the call was being recorded, Redmon laughed nervously and added, “That’s what the paper says.”

Despite this, as well as a videotaped meeting between her and the same friend in which the friend tells her she needs to “flip the script” and blame her ex-boyfriend for cooking his own dog in an attempt to get custody of the child the two shared (which she kind of did), a jury acquitted her in less than two hours.

Terrie Robinson Cooked Son To Death Inside Oven

Terrie RobinsonJACKSON, MS – Almost five years ago, 24-year-old Terrie Robinson was charged with murder after police discovered her 3-year-old son cooking inside an oven while responding to an emergency call at her apartment. Autopsy results would reveal show Tristan Robinson was alive when he was placed inside the oven and had died from thermal injuries.

There was some hope that the boy was unconscious when he was cooked to death, mainly because of a head injury he suffered. Unfortunately, that was never proven to be the case one way or the other.

“His cause of death was thermal injury as the result of the heat from the stove,” Washington County Coroner Methel Johnson would later say. “We can not relate if he was conscious or unconscious at the time or not. But the head injury may have indirectly or directly come from him rolling over in the oven.”

A year later, Robinson would enter a guilty plea and was sentenced to life behind bars.

Man Who Cooked 4-year-old Angela Palmer Alive In Oven May Get New Trial

John LaneAUBURN, ME – On the night of October 27, 1984, John Lane beat 4-year-old Angela Palmer and then placed her inside an oven. Lane would later say he thought Angela was a demon that was trying to kill him, so he forced her into the oven and wedged a chair against the door. As Angela screamed to be let out, Lane turned the oven’s heat up as high as it could go.

After an unsuccessful insanity defense, Lane was sentenced to life behind bars at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. The reason why he popped up on the Dreamin’ Demon recently is because while he has been incarcerated he has been treated for psychosis – and now he wants a new trial.

Lane claims his mental illness prevented him from filing a timely appeal and that his lawyer did a piss-poor job of defending him during his 1985 trial by failing to introduce his mental health records into evidence, as well as failing to challenge a psychiatrist statements that Lane understood what he was doing with Angela was wrong. A judge agreed and recommended that the court set a date by which the Attorney General’s Office must notify the court whether it will argue for dismissal based on the merits of Lane’s claims.

I just did a quick check and could not find any updates on this one, but if you would like to read up about this case, the trial, and the aftermath, check out Lucifer’s Child by Elliott L Epstein.
