SUMPTER TOWNSHIP, MI – Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a couple wanted for the murder of a 4-year-old girl who died from severe burns.
Police responded to a residence at the Rawsonville Woods Mobile Home Community on January 1st after receiving a call about an unresponsive 4-year-old girl.
The officers arrived to find family members performing CPR on the girl who was suffering from severe burns on her body.
The girl was rushed to the hospital where she would be pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The medical examiner would rule the girl’s death a homicide and an autopsy would reveal she had suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” and injuries that indicated prolonged physical abuse.
The girl’s mother, 24-year-old Candice Diaz, and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Brad Fields, have been charged with felony murder, murder in the second degree, child abuse and torture. Fields was also charged as a habitual offender.
The problem is that police cannot find them. The couple is believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with the Michigan license plate DTR1854.
